This medley is comprised of Lou Reed’s “Rock n’ Roll” and Long John Baldry’s “Don’t Try to Lay no Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll”.  The Lou Reed & Velvet Underground song is really Mitch Ryder’s version of the song  which we changed even further.  I was first introduced to Mitch Ryder’s version of the song by Brent Doerner many years ago and always had wanted to record the song.  Ditto for the Long John Baldry number.  Incidentally, Cheryl Lescom, who sings background vocals on this track,  once sang back up for Baldry as well.  I had the honor of meeting him once when we “almost”  played a festival in Oakville around 1977.   We never did end up playing, as a freak thunderstorm hit in the middle of Savoy Brown’s set  and knocked the whole sound system out for the day.  But I got a picture of the man.  As for Mitch Ryder, we played with him once in the 80’s.  It was in a tiny little bar somewhere in Indianna.  I was taking a leak in the alley behind the club  before the show when I looked to my right and he was taking a squirt too.  I think that’s a funny story, but then again, I’m a little twisted…
