May 6th/Century Casino with KICKAXE
Our last show with our old buddies KICKAXE was a sold out affair at The Century Casino. It’s a great room to see both bands-excellent sight lines and an amazing sound system. The band is itching to play! Our last gig was in Stockholm, Sweden back on December 13th/2016, when we played for Rocklassiker Live with Mickie Dee of Motorhead (Mickie Dee & The All Stars), The HOOTERS, and THE DARKNESS. We stopped in Iceland for a day on the way back home, which was a real experience. A great way to end off the most successful year we’ve had in two decades. We have a revamped set list this time around, still playing the hits but mixing it up a little bit with some vintage material ie. Feel The Fire from the Walking the Razor’s Edge album. And, as usual, we’ll probably be playing a couple new songs too.
Things just keep getting better every day for HELIX…This June they return to Sweden to play SWEDEN ROCK, followed by concert dates across Canada. The band will be releasing a new song & video in the spring (THE DEVIL IS HAVING A PARTY TONIGHT) as well scheduling time to film a new Helix movie based on films Brian Vollmer (lead vocalist) has taken over the past 40 years. As well, Brian will be recording his own solo CD in May with Gavin Brown, who has produced Tragically Hip, The Barenaked Ladies, The Trews, and many other Juno winning acts.
Helix has a long history with the city of Edmonton, beginning in the late 1970’s, playing such rock bars as The Subway, The Beverly Crest, The Highwayman, The Convention Inn South, and many more before graduating to The Collisium in 1983. In the mid 80s they were filmed by MUCH MUSIC for The Big Ticket at the Convention Center in downtown Edmonton. In the past several years they have played many Edmonton showcase rock bars, casinos, and even a Grey Cup tailgate party with George Canyon.
