1981: WHITE LACE & BLACK LEATHER/H&S RECORDS
This was our second independent album on our own H&S label (Helix & Seip). One of the songs, “Women, Whiskey, & Sin” became a hit for us in England and caused the album to be a # 1 import there. It also got us press in Sounds and Kerrang magazines, the music bibles of all English metal heads. This attracted the attention of David Muntz, from the British side of Capitol/E.M.I and eventually it was on his urging that we were signed to the label. Muntz was very in-tune with what was happening in the British metal scene with such acts as Motorhead, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest.
You can read about this part of the band’s history in my autobiography “Gimme an R!” available in the merch section of this website. The White Lace & Black Leather and the Breaking Loose album are now sold together in their entirety as “The Early Years”. This CD is available through the merch section of the website.
Interesting to note for collectors: We used to have small quantities of Helix coffee cups with the White Lace & Black Leather on the cup (along with many of the other album covers). Somewhere out there are a couple of them, I would assume.
